CANDLELIT CONCERT II
This candlelit concert will offer an intimate musical experience in the unique setting of St. Wenceslaus Chapel. In an intimate atmosphere illuminated by hundreds of candles, the captivating tones of the traditional Ukrainian instrument-the bandura-will fill the air.
The bandura is a stringed instrument with a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. At first glance, it captivates with its unusual shape, which combines elements of the lute and the harp. A modern bandura can have more than 60 strings, allowing it to produce an exceptionally diverse range of sounds–from delicate, lyrical melodies to full, almost orchestral textures. In Ukrainian culture, the bandura is a symbol of national identity and has been associated for centuries with the epic storytellers known as kobzars.
